Endodontics

Endodontics is the dental specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the dental pulp, the portion of the tooth containing the nerves, blood vessels and connective tissues. Endodontic disease refers to infection or inflammation of the pulp of the tooth. When the pulp is injured, it may become inflamed (i.e., pulpitis), and may resolve, or may progress to pulp death (pulp necrosis). When the pulp dies, the tooth dies, and this makes it very susceptible to infection of the tooth roots. Left untreated, a patient may experience severe toothache, infection that may spread, and eventually, loss of the tooth.

Our endodontic services include root canal treatment, re-treatment, and apicoectomy using a variety of techniques to tailor the treatment plan for each patient. Bensonhurst Endodontics & Dental Implants is equipped to provide the latest treatment options and technology, including a dental microscope and cone beam CT, to provide the highest quality care. We are committed to providing the best endodontic care possible to ensure a healthy and successful outcome for our patients.

Saving your natural teeth, if possible, is always the best option. Nothing artificial can fully replace the look or function of a natural tooth so it’s important to consider root canal treatment as an option. Even though Dr. Wang is also a periodontist who places dental implants, he recommends saving a good tooth when possible before extracting it.

Endodontic treatment has a high success rate and many root canal-treated teeth can last a lifetime. Replacing an extracted tooth with a bridge or implant requires more time in treatment and may result in further procedures to neighboring teeth and supporting tissue.  Because of Dr. Wang’s dual-training in both Endodontics and periodontists, he is committed to providing an unbiased treatment plan in conjunction with a consult and exam.
